Motorcycle Accidents on the Grand Strand

Motorcycle Accidents on the Grand Strand

Last week was the start of Bike Weeks along the Grand Strand. I personally spent too much time in traffic as locals and tourist were deciding how to drive through Horry County. It is also reported that while there were many, many accidents, motorcycle accidents, numbers were down from previous years. Deadly motorcycle accidents were only a few, thankfully.

While encouraged by these numbers, Atlantic and Myrtle Beach authorities are on full alert for the Memorial Day weekend. As an accident and personal injury attorney, I am expecting calls from those being charged in an accident and the injured.

On our website we have resources to understand all aspects of a motorcycle accident: Common Causes, Types of Injuries, Insurance Concerns and Product Liability.

COMMON CAUSES OF MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENTS

Motorcycle accidents can occur for a number of reasons, including driver negligence. Negligent acts that may result in an accident can include:

  • Cutting off motorcyclist at intersections;
  • Driving under the influence
  • Failure to yield and inability to recognize motorcyclist in traffic
  • Swerving in front of a cyclist;
  • Failing to follow posted speed limits; failing to yield when appropriate;
  • Failing to leave sufficient room between the vehicles; and
  • Neglecting to pay attention to other drivers.

These crashes may also be caused by motor vehicles drivers who do not exercise proper care when making left-hand turns at intersections. Left-turn accidents are commonly caused by drivers who:

  • Misjudge the motorcyclist’s speed or distance;
  • Fail to see the motorcyclist;
  • Panic and stop in the motorcyclist’s path; or
  • Rely on the judgment of another driver, who also fails to see the motorcyclist.

Be safe this weekend and enjoy the freedoms that those honored on Memorial Day have given us. If you need an attorney, Call Murray!
